Mohamed Salah before Liverpool
Salah has played with 5 different clubs before Liverpool (Al Mokawloon Al Arab, Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina and Roma).
Al Mokawloon Al Arab
The Egyptian international started his professional career in the Egyptian Premier League with Al Mokawloon Al Arab in May 2010. He spent there about a year and half until the Egyptian Premier League was suspended in February 2012 after Port Said Stadium riot.
Basel
After Mokawloon, and on 10 April 2012, Salah signed with FC Basil, a Swiss football club based in Basel.
He’s spent two seasons with Basel where he scored for the Swiss club 20 goals in 79 matches. In Basel, his first Europa League goal against Tottenham Hotspur (The match ended 4/1 on penalties for Basel).
Chelsea
Salah played against Chelsea three times as a winger for Basel. As a result for his performance, the English club decided to bring Salah to London for £11 million. In January 2014, Salah signed a contract with Chelsea making him the first Egyptian to sign for the Stamford Bridge club.
In March 2014, Mo Salah scored his first goal with Chelsea in the game against Arsenal at Stamford Bridge. During his two seasons with Chelsea, Mo scored only two goals which made the club to decide to send him to Italy.
Fiorentina
In February 2015, Salah signed a 18-months loan contract with the Italian club Fiorentina. Mo scored his first goal for the club in the 30th minute against Sassuolo on 14 February. After only 26 matches, Salah refused to stay with Fiorentina instead decided to move to another club in the Serie A.
Roma
Mohamed Salah joined Roma in a loan contract but on 3 August 2016 he signed a permanent deal with the Italian club. Salah has played a total of 83 matches with Roma and he’s scored 34 goals. During his time with Roma, he was teammates with Alisson Becker. Alisson later came to sign with Liverpool for a fee of £66.8 million (€72.5 million), making him the most expensive goalkeeper of all time.
Mohamed Salah with the Reds
In June 2017 and for an initial €42m fee, Mohmed Salah signed a long-term contract with Liverpool. He became the Liverpool’s first Egyptian player. Salah has scored his first goal with Liverpool in the Premier League against Watford (the game ended 3/3). He was named the Player of the Month by Liverpool supporters.
On his first season with Liverpool, he scored his first hat-trick with Liverpool on the game against Watford on 17 March 2018. As a result, Salah was awarded the PFA Players’ Player of the Year. In this season, he formed with Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino a wonderful attacking combination and the fans started to call them “Fab Three”.
Salah has described his happiness in Liverpool:
“I said since day one that I’m happy here at Liverpool and I want to show my football here. It’s a dream to win the Premier League here after a long time”.
Later, in October 2018, Salah scored his 50th for the club on the match against Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League. In addition to that, Mo reached with Liverpool to the first UEFA Champions League Final since 2007 in 2018 after beating Manchester City and Roma. But the Reds went on to lose in the final 3–1 to Real Madrid.
Salah winning the Champions League
After losing the final against Real Madrid, Liverpool came back to the final at the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid against Tottenham Hotspur. Early on that match, Mo Salah scored the first goal for Liverpool and by doing so, he gave the team the confidence they needed to control the final. The Reds won 2 – 0 goals scored by: Mo Salah and Origi, giving Salah his first trophy with Liverpool in 2019.
Salah said after Liverpool won the Champions League: “You win a final. I’m glad to play second final in a row and play 90 minutes, finally!”

Also in December 2019, Salah ended fifth in the voting polls for the 2019 Ballon d’Or. In addition to that, he won the 2019 FIFA Club World Cup by winning the final against Flamengo. Mo performance was exceptional during the FIFA Club World Cup, so he won the Golden Ball award for Player of the competition.
Mo winning the Premier League 2019/20
After losing the Premier League 2018/19 to Manchester City by only one point, Liverpool came back to win the Premier League 2020/21. The season was absolutely historic for the Reds after a 30-year wait to achieve the League title. By this winning, Liverpool got the 19th top-flight title which’s their first since 1989/90.
In the first match of the season, Mo Salah scored the second goal for Liverpool against Norwich City ended (4/1) for the Reds.
Salah achieved 34 Premier League appearances on this season scoring 19 goals and 10 assists. Mohamed Salah has played a total of 2,884 minutes. He also become the first Liverpool player to score 20 goals in all competitions in three consecutive seasons since Michael Owen between 2000/01 and 2002/03.
The Egyptian King stated after winning the title: “When I came here, I said I wanted to win the Premier League – it’s my first thing in my head”.

The manager of the Reds Jurgen Klopp said on Mo Salah:
“He is an outstanding striker, a world-class striker. It’s really nice, I’m really happy for him that he reached that mark and I think Sadio has the chance to do similar stuff. That would be really cool.
“We need the boys because with all the good stuff you can do on the pitch, in the end you need somebody to finish it off and very often, thank God, it was Mo”.
